Othelloââ¬â¢s Jealousy Jealousy. It is an emotion that we have all felt you know that sharp pang in your chest when you start to feel insecurity or concern towards your significant other. In William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Othello, Othello has a deep uncanny love for Desdemona that you would think that it could not be swayed or destroyed. Ironically enough, Iago stirs his pot of lies and insinuates that Desdemona is being unfaithful and is cheating on him with lieutenant Cassio, which causes Othello to become irrational and fulfill an action only a man who is full of rage and envy would sought out to do to his own wife. A psychologist assistant of psychology at the University of Maryland; Dr. White explains that jealousy is not merely simple to explain, but it is a complex of thoughts, emotions, and action which follows threats to the relationship, when those threats are generated by the perception of a real or potential attraction between oneââ¬â¢s partner and a (perhaps imaginary) rival. Dr. White also stated that the problem isnââ¬â¢t just correlated with jealousy per se, but how a person responds to it.
